If one asks an experienced bowhunter for the most important aspects of successful bowhunting, the answer will be:
"Shot placement and a super-sharp broadhead!"
The anatomically correct placement of the hunting arrow is a job we cannot do for you, but the excellent sharpness of our broadheads we guarantee!!
So that you bring your broadheads even after multiple use, to the practice target or after hunting back to the necessary cutting performance, some important things should be considered when resharpening.
The blades of the SilverFlame Broadheads are ground at an angle of 38°, thus 19° per blade side.
In order to bring it back to razor sharpness, it should be done at an angle of 40° (20° per side) or a larger angle.
Contrary to most other broadheads, which typically have a v-shaped blade, SilverFlame Broadheads can be resharpened troublefree, without the sharpening device touching the ferrule.
An angle of 40° is proved to be an ideal combination of outstanding sharpness and edge retention.
Surely you can resharpen also in a larger angle, if you want to optimize the blade on edge retention.
All useful sharpening devices offer an adjustable and to all reproducible sharpening angle.
Most sharpening devices of well-known manufacturers such as WICKED EDGE, LANSKY, DMT, GATCO, SPYDERCO, RAZOREDGE SYSTEMS and identically constructed models are suitable very well, in order to help with expert hand a used SilverFlame blade to a hunting adequate sharpness.
A usefully sharpened blade shaves the hair of the forearm effortlessly and needs an adequate amount of caution and respect in handling.
We do not recommend the usage of so-called "Quick-Sharpeners", as one typically finds them in discount department stores, household business and even with some broadhead manufacturers.
These "pull-through-sharpeners" consist mostly of two tungsten carbide or ceramic(s) panels, which oppose one another other fixed in a certain angle. This angle corresponds only in the rarest cases to that of the blade, which you want to sharpen.
This tool works thus metal chip removing and produces a thin, first allegedly sharp burr on the very edge, that however will lay aside or break away completely at the first contact with tough materials.
These devices are an absolute makeshift device and its result has nothing to do with a professional sharpening. You should by the way also save your high-grade hunting knife from this torture.
